Hi there! My name is Claire and I am the author of The Rustic Pig Designs.
We moved to the San Antonio area in June of 2012. We were finally back home after 13 years.
I had been teaching for the past 14 years and although I dreamed of staring my own business, I just didn’t know what kind of business I wanted to do. I didn’t have a vision for a business.
When I came across someone selling 25 antique windows, I decided to buy them. I had NO idea what I was going to do with 25 windows, but I knew it would give me something to do.
In August, despite the several applications I had out, school started without me.
I wasn’t sad, in fact, I knew God had something better in mind. I could just feel it.
I decided to start up this little blog to share with others (mostly family) what I was doing with my 25 windows.
As I painted each window, they began to stack up, and then, I decided I probably needed somewhere to sell them. So I sold my windows at a few craft shows.
Before I knew it, Rustic Pig Designs took off.
I slowly started buying furniture and painting it as well.
In one month, I was asked to bring a few of my windows and some of my furniture to a store in Fredericksburg. A few weeks later, I leased a space in Boerne at The Corner Cartel.
Some of my favorite pieces I’ve painted are the desk above and my pillow drawers.
I also attempted to reupholster a French Chair with burlap coffee sacks and was beyond amazed when it actually turned out quite nice! It is still one of my favorites!!
In 2013, only a year after my blogging and furniture business took off, I was offered a job at our church that I just felt I couldn’t pass up. It had been on my heart for a long time to be in ministry, so I felt like it was God opening a door. With the all of my time being taken up with working at the church, I really had no time, or energy to keep blogging or painting, so I walked away from it all.
Fast forward to February 2016. My husband got a new job that involved us leaving behind our family, friends, church, and the job I loved. Surprisingly, I got a job at a mega church in the Dallas area, but with the stress of a new job, new home, new town, new everything, my anxiety that had been dormant for the last 4 years decided to rear it’s ugly head and I went down fast. You can read that story here.
I ended up quitting my job after only being there for two weeks, and turned back to what I love most.. blogging, designing, creating and painting.
So, here I am, in September of 2016. I’ve started an Etsy store to sell signs that I create, I’m blogging again and I’m loving every minute of it!
My style has a changed a bit over the years. I’ve gone from French Country to more of a Farmhouse Style.
