Hill Country Fall Mantel

I believe the seasons are a reminder…

You see, Fall and I used to have this love, hate relationship.

I used to LOVE to HATE Fall.

Well, at least that’s how I used to feel.

To me, as a child, Fall meant back to school.  It meant homework, book reports, projects, and going to bed early.

As an adult, during my 13 years of teaching, it meant good-bye summer vacation and hello grading papers, answering emails, parent meetings, and 30 minute lunches (if you were lucky).

Now, as a blogger, Fall means something TOTALLY different.

It means decorating, projects, creative ideas, recipes and ways to help others decorate their home for Fall.

It means home tours, wreaths, and all things pumpkin!

So, as I’ve been decorating, I’ve been burning pumpkin spice candles and dreaming of cooler weather.

I no longer look at Fall the same as I did before.

Fall is about change.

I’ve learned that, as tough as it may be to experience change, change is usually a good thing.  Through change, we grow.  We learn more about ourselves.  We become new.

It’s a process, just like going through the seasons.

So, as we head into Fall, and the trees begin to lose their leaves, I will choose to LOVE, and not HATE Fall.

I will choose to watch the process and remember that God has it all under control….

….a reminder from the seasons.

Do you see how change in your life can be a reflection of the seasons?

PS- As I mentioned last week when I shared my Burlap Ribbon Fall Wreath, I have lots of Fall decorating ahead of me as I prepare for an upcoming Fall Home Tour on the blog, so I’ll see you tomorrow with another Fall project!

  1. I’m with you- I love Fall-but I think I always did. I loved school and I loved the scents and sights of Autumn. It was when my Dad would take me on the tractor to check the fence lines and see what crops were ready to be harvested. It meant gathering princess pine for winter decorating, too.
What a great post! I love it- xi Diana

  4. Good Morning Claire~
I’ve been thinking of the process of change recently. One thing I’m realizing is that with change often comes conflict. It’s not always comfortable! It’s in the process of overcoming the conflict that we grow in this change. When we recognize that, the conflict starts looking like an opportunity…

On a lighter note, as a former teacher, I remember feeling the same way, then raising the kids brought mixed emotions, but growing up in brisk New England brought the most wonderful Fall seasons! xo Heidi

    • Hi Heidi! I would love to experience a real Fall! I bet New England is gorgeous!! We visited in the summer one year, and I loved it! I agree about change and conflict and how it really turns into an opportunity. I’ve seen that several times in my own life! Hugs!! Claire
