Antique Chair Gets Its Racing Stripes

I’ve noticed that when God wants to tell me something, I end up hearing it over and over… and over again.

That has been the case for me these past three days.

Racing Stripes Red Chair

Our message at church this past weekend, or the part of the message that stood out the most for me anyways, was that God gives us tests.  He does this to help us to grow into the person He wants us to be.

At one point our pastor yelled, “WHEN YOU ARE BEING TESTED YOU BETTER PASS THE TEST, OR BE READY TO TAKE IT AGAIN!”

It stuck in my head.  I got it.  I knew what it meant.

I also know that I’m done taking this one particular test and I’m ready to move on!  I’m ready to pass it!!

So, if the message in church wasn’t enough, God made sure I heard it again.  This time, in the form of a Facebook post from Joel Osteen (Don’t you love when God talks through Facebook?).

So today, while I was thinking of a catchy name for this blog post, I thought of “Antique Chair Gets Its Racing Stripes.”

At the time, I didn’t think much of it, as I have always heard the phrase, “to earn your stripes,” and I just thought it would be perfect for this chair.

Then, I decided to research “earn your stripes.”

Here’s what I found in the idioms dictionary… “to do something to show that you deserve a particular rank or position.”

So, in order to move up in rank or position, to move to the next level, you probably need to pass a test.  Right?

I mean, this isn’t new to us.  We’ve all been through school, so we should totally understand this logic.

The funny things is that when it comes to life, we either a.) don’t realize we’re being tested,or b.) like how we’ve been doing things and don’t want to change.

Even if it’s painful.  Even if it’s difficult.  Even if you think it can’t be done.

The test MUST be passed or else you are going to have to keep taking it again and again.

What test are you taking right now?

Are you as tired of taking that test as I am at taking mine?

What are you going to do differently today to make this time around different?

I’m not trying to “earn my stripes”.

I have a different motive.

Mine comes from the Bible.  James 1:12 to be exact…

“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord had promised to those who love him.”

I’m ready to earn my crown.

How about you?

PS- This chair was painted in Annie Sloan Emperor’s Silk and the stripe is in Old White.  The whole chair was waxed with clear wax.

Hugs!!
