I am so excited to be sharing my home with you all today! What a wonderful tour we’ve had so far! If you’ve missed any part of the tour, you can scroll down to the bottom of this page and click on the other blogs participating in our Summer Showcase Home Tour.
My home may be a little different from the others on the tour in that we don’t own our home. We moved here last summer and we just weren’t sure where we wanted to be so we decided to rent before buying. Luckily, we were blessed and found an amazing home that had everything in it we could possibly imagine. An added plus was that the home fit our style of decor perfectly and so we were able to move right in and feel at home as though we had painted and designed it ourselves.
Michelle Shoultz, of The Vintage Bee, is not only the designer of this home, but is also responsible for the custom finishes, cabinets, and paint colors (including antiquing of all the trim and hand painting a few special touches here and there). She is truly one talented lady!
All furnishings and decorations are mine. 🙂
Let’s get this tour started!
First of all, we live in the Texas Hill Country, about 30 miles northwest of San Antonio in a little city called Spring Branch… not to be confused with the city in Houston.
Our home sits on a little over an acre of land. It is in walking distance to a spring fed creek and is about 2 miles from the Guadalupe River.
One of the things we really wanted around our home were trees, and lots of them! Luckily, we got that, and then some! There are several tall oak trees on the property. Not only do they provide shade during those hot Texas summers, but they are also great for little boys who love to climb trees!
There are several things that I love about this home, and this little front patio is one of them.
This is one place that I hope to decorate in the very near future!
Come on in and I’ll share a few of my favorite rooms in the house.
When you come in through the double doors, you enter into the foyer. The majority of the home is covered in walnut wood floors.
To the left, is my office and one of my favorite rooms in the house!
I recently bought and painted the lovely antique french desk you see in my office. It will stay with me forever as it was something I had wanted for a long time. I was beyond thrilled when I finally found it and couldn’t be more happier with how it turned out!
Of course, my husband, who works from home, also needs his own space, and his office is also to the left of the foyer through the double doors…
You will find lots of antique pieces of furniture in our home… some painted, some not, but using these pieces in an unexpected way is one of my favorite ways to decorate. For example, this old ironing board begged to be used as a table, and it worked out perfect for my husband’s office.
The living room and kitchen are truly the center of our home.
I’ve always wanted white slip-covered couches, but with three dogs, one being black, there is just no way that would be practical. So, we opted for leather couches and I’ve tried to soften them up a bit with white throw pillows.
Of course, my painted pieces show up here and there throughout the house, like this coffee table, and the black buffet in the back.
I absolutely LOVE to decorate… can you tell? Our current fireplace mantel looks like this…
…I’m sure it will change again when the seasons change.
Our french country kitchen is yet another place I love!
Again, the entire kitchen (including the cabinets and drawers) were custom painted by The Vintage Bee (see above for link).
Next, our master bedroom…
I love the calming colors of this room, but mostly, I love the windows. Not only are there windows all around, but in front of the bed are double doors that lead to our back patio.
I’ve worked hard on the back patio these past few months, and so I’m excited to show you what lies beyond those double doors.
My back porch headboard swing is by far one of my favorite places to be! My husband and I just recently built this swing, and it has been a great place to sit in the morning and have my quiet time.
I love the large oak trees that come up through our patio, and the wide open space of the backyard.
Living in the country is absolutely wonderful… until you decide to plant something!
The deer out here are everywhere! Since I really wanted a small garden, we decided to buy a few old whiskey barrels and added some fruit trees, a couple tomato plants, some herbs, and a jalapeno plant. So far, the deer have stayed away and I’ve been able to harvest a few tomatoes and jalapenos. Hopefully they’ll continue to stay away.
I hope you’ve enjoyed the tour! Thanks so much for stopping by!
Please take the time to visit the others who are sharing their home today and don’t forget to check out those that posted earlier this week!
