Summer Back Porch Headboard Swing

Back Porch Headboard Swing

I have always dreamed of having a back porch swing.

Always.

I think there would be nothing like sitting on your back porch, listening to some music, or reading a great book while swinging in the breeze.

It just sounded so lovely.

So, after lots of begging, my sweet hubby decided to make my dream come true.  (It’s only been 14 years people.)

Of course, I didn’t want just any swing.

Of course.

I wanted a swing made out of one of the many headboards I had saved in the garage.  Three to be exact.

My husband did not share in my vision at first, but after showing him my headboards and explaining how I thought it would work, he finally caught on and was able to figure out a design he was happy with.

He took this lovely headboard and began by making a seat frame in front of it.  We angled the headboard just right so it would be comfortable.

Next, we added some arms to the side.

At this point I was so excited!  It took everything in me to not pull out the paint and start painting it right there!

Of course, we decided to hang it first… just in case it needed some additional tweaks.

Hanging it was the fun part.

Not really.  It was torture.

Not only does it weigh a ton, but we had the hardest time getting the chains just right.

At one point, the hubby and I sat on it and tried to lean back on it together to make sure it was sturdy.

It wasn’t.

We both flipped completely backwards landing right on our backs.  For a second, we laid there not saying a word.  Then we bust out laughing.  Seriously… we could have won $10,000 on America’s Funniest Videos had someone caught it on video!

Once the chains were right, I was finally able to paint it!

I chose Annie Sloan’s Duck Egg.

I just LOVE this color!  It is so calming.

In order to make the details pop, I outlined them in white.

Finally, I added some cushions and throw pillows for comfort.

There it is!  My dream swing!

What do you think?  Would you use a headboard for a swing?

I must confess… my swing has actually been done for a few weeks now, but I wanted to share this post for our Summer Celebration Series that’s going on now with a few other fabulous bloggers!

  4. This is just gorgeous and unique! I found you on Hometalk. You are so lucky to have such a handy and supportive husband. I am usually the one with the power tools at my house. When we were looking for our new house back in 2005 having a front porch so I could have a porch swing was a must! I am happy to say I got my wish. Our porch is tiny but I was able to hang a small swing in it. It is a great place to relax with a good magazine or a cup of coffee!

  37. If this really is the case you might contact their insurance company and discuss
the complete terms from the policy. If people are inside the car along, they’re
going to feel the tension inside air and you’ll all wish you shipped the auto instead.
In order to get sure you happen to be getting the very best deals ensure you read all from
