Office Makeover: Part 2

If you haven’t read Part 1 of my Office Makeover, you can check it out here.

I am working on this office makeover a little at a time.  I’d like to stay within a budget and get the most for my money.  This means lots of garage sales and Craigslist shopping.  I’m one happy girl!

This is the wall I am tackling first.

The desk is WAY too small, and because of this, I am using bar stools to hold both my printer and Silhouette.  Not very smart, I know.

My design for this room is to have my desk in the center of the room with my printer, cameo, and design space behind me.  I knew this would require a rather large piece of furniture.

I also wanted to stay true to myself and that meant finding an antique piece in need of some love.

So, Hubby found this piece…

It was only $25!  We loved the Restoration Hardware feel of it.  It also met the criteria.  Antique, large (10 feet to be exact!), and in need of some love.  LOTS of love!

Hubby spent hours fixing old, rotted boards and vacuuming out little creepy insects who had made their home in the drawers for the last decade.

Once it was all fixed up, I went to paint it.

I stood there.  Paintbrush in hand.  Annie Sloan in the other.

I couldn’t do it.

It was then I realized…this piece isn’t me.  It’s too big and bulky.  It looks like nothing IN our home.  Did I mention it’s bulky?  And big?  And HEAVY??  I couldn’t even pull out the drawers!!  They’re THAT heavy!

Now, in the garage, it would be perfect, and that’s exactly where it went.  The garage.  Hubby is happy. (Hmmm.. I wonder if hubby knew it would all work out this way?  He sure is happy to have another workbench!)

So the search went on.

And then I found it…

(Since I forgot to take a before picture, I had to copy this one from the ad.  Luckily, it was still up.)

The lady selling it was very concerned that I would be driving an hour to come and get it.  She sent me several pictures, measurements, and let me know it was VERY shabby and the top did not match the bottom.

I kept reassuring her it was OK.  I knew it would be perfect!

I was right, it was perfect.  Plus, for $80, it was also a perfect steal!

I wanted to keep the white color, so I painted over all the water stains, paint chips, and scratches in Old White.

Then we brought it in and I was able to accessorize!

I LOVE this old typewriter!  I had been looking for one for years, but they were always priced more than I was willing to spend.  We found this one last weekend for $10!!  GASP!  I know!!

I brought in this picture given to me by a sweet parent/friend last year.  I thought it would be perfect in my office as a reminder to be God’s light.  To be generous.  To SHINE!

The extra large drawers are the perfect storage for my Silhouette Cameo.  LOVE!!

Finally…

… Oh, so much better already!!!

I am using this for a desk now, but it is only temporary.  I plan to put some sort of file cabinet under the bottom portion of the desk once my desk is ready.

There is still so much to do!  Desk, curtains, rug, lamps, more paint…staying in a budget… soooo excited!!

I am working on my desk today!  Stay tuned..

Hugs!!

I think I gasped outloud! Its a good thing we don’t live closer to each other I would be over all the time swooning over it 🙂 and thats a great print to have on your desk! always a good reminder. • You are too funny!! OK, what color was your Neon? Mine was Green… not Lime Green, but green. I REALLY wanted the purple one, but my dad said NO WAY! I did make the curtains.. one of my first blog posts! I actually just took them down and put up new curtains. I’m using the burlap ones for my booth. 🙂 Hope you’re having a great week!! Hugs!!!

  2. Office looks great. I have never seen a desk like that! I have to say I love the first “big” piece that you found. Glade you kept it even if it did go in the garage.

    • Thanks!! I have never seen a piece like it either. I thought maybe someone had merged a dresser with a desk, but when I saw it, it truly is all one piece! I love that big piece too… I wish you could come over and try to lift it. It has to be the heaviest piece I’ve ever picked up.. or NOT picked up I should say! I can’t even pull the drawers out!! Love that you stopped by!! Hugs!!!

  3. I am freaking out over all your finds!!! Seriously!!!! I can’t wait to see the finished room because I would LIVE in that office the way that it is.

And a $10 Underwood?!?!?! Biggest steal EVER!!!
