Yesterday I had a plethora (I just love that word. I can say it over and over and over and it never gets old. In fact, I can say it a plethora of times. Hee hee!) of things to do. Since my show was this past weekend, every possible errand that needed to be run got put on hold. So, today became the run-every-errand-till-you-run-out-of-time day. Hubby decided he wanted to come along too, since in a few hours he would be off to Chicago. So, we made it a date day.
If your hubby works from home, make time to have some date days. They are fabulous! You don’t have to pay for childcare. The restaurants aren’t crowded. You aren’t tired because you’ve spent all day working, or in my case, crafting. It’s just a great time of day for a date!
We headed to Whole Foods first. I can spend all day there! It’s a great place to go if you are starving and it isn’t quite time for lunch or dinner. They always have some YUMMY samples sitting out. Hubby was in love with some granola cranberry cookies they had out. When he found out they were $6 for a box of…like… 6, he decided to eat as many samples as he could since he knew we wouldn’t be buying those!
After Whole Foods we ran to Target for dog food… dogs aren’t allowed Whole Food’s dog food. Sorry, dogs.
They probably wouldn’t eat it anyways.. too healthy.
From there we went to Academy. Blah. Nothing to say about Academy. It was on hubby’s list.. not mine.
We ate a fabulous lunch at Pei Wei. I’ve mentioned this before…our kids don’t eat Pei Wei, so we eat there whenever we get a chance. YUM!
Of course, on the way home, we just HAD to stop at Goodwill. Someone needs to explain to the people at Goodwill, that they need to invest in some air fresheners. What is that smell that only belongs to thrift stores? Is it the smell of junk? The detergent they wash the clothes in….they do wash those clothes, right? Or is it just the smell of… old things? Whatever it is, it always takes me by surprise when I walk in.
Hubby gave me a 5 min. time limit.
It started the moment we got out of the car.
I ran in….
Grabbed two chairs.
Hubby got some strange electronic contraption that he was ready to attack some guy over. Luckily, for my husband, the guy sat it back down.
This creepy doll got our attention….
(Sorry for the bad pic. I REALLY need a new camera!)
She’s creepy right?
So, we found this creepy doll and Hubby thought it would be funny to set in the boys’ bathroom and then act confused as to how she got there when the boys asked where she came from.
We laughed at our mean parent idea. Moo ha ha ha!!
Then we bought her.
Luckily, she was only .49! A bargain for a creepy doll!!
The more I looked at her, the more I wanted to know more about her. When I got home, I spent 2 HOURS looking for information on this doll. Come to find out, she is a China doll. Made by someone LEARNING how to craft dolls. This explains the horrible make-up job! But wait.. there’s more…guess how much she’s worth…..
Just a little over .49!!! Or so I was told. That probably means .50. I got a BARGAIN!
You know I couldn’t be mean to my babies. Cayd got home and saw her on the bar and said, “Mom, where did that creepy doll come from?”
I explained our mean idea to him.
He looked at me… surely concerned about his parent’s mental stability.
I picked it up and threw it away.
So, after all of that.. here is what I worked on today….
The Queen’s Throne…
This is just one of the chairs I picked up from Goodwill for $9.99.
Isnt’ she a beauty?
I think she’s hideous, but I gotta love me a barrel back chair!!
Here’s what I did…
First, I lightly sanded it all over.
Then, I mixed up some chalk paint using some Grey “oops paint” I had picked up last week. I LOVE grey!! Just gorgeous!
I painted two coats of this grey paint all over.
Obviously my hair wanted some grey highlights and decided to just jump right on into the paint!
I left them grey. Maybe I’ll start a new trend.
Next, I lightly distressed it.
Once I had distressed it in all the right places, I brushed on a dark walnut stain and then wiped it off. The neat thing about this technique, is that after you have distressed it, the stain seeps into those distressed places, making them darker. LOVE it!!
Finally, I added the word “Queen” to it because every home should have a chair for the Queen of the house!
Here she is…
A pretty big change from the chair I started out with… don’t you think?
